Long to Belong – A Song That Heals the Heart!
Long to Belong is a song that I wrote when I was in 6th grade. I was 11 years old at the time and there were some girls in my class that were being crazy mean. Like most of you, my life is busy so I just kept going and doing my thing both outside of school and within school activities, like mock trial. But it was painful when one girl in particular was my best friend one minute, then my worst friend the next. I wrote Long to Belong to help me make sense of that and to deal with the pain of it. Music is healing to the heart.
Since then, I have moved on to a different school and, as you might have guessed, there are mean girls there, too....but a ton of nice people also. That one particular friend and I have totally made up and we know each other for real and it’s very cool.
I’m thinking that everyone at some point in their life Longs to Belong. I’m thinking that we’re all relatively the same, which means that we all want to be loved and not have to try too hard – not have to be perfect --- but just be ourselves. For anyone who has ever felt this way, I dedicate this song to you.
From the heart, Rachel
Here are the lyrics:
Long to Belong
Verse 1:
Start each day complete and whole
At each day’s end
A piece of me gets stolen away
And I can’t pretend that I
Don’t want to belong
Verse 2:
No body wants to stand alone
Or feel like they
have to be
on their own, they shouldn’t have to pretend
they don’t want to fit in
Chorus:
Long to belong
Just want to be me
Not too strong
(And I don’t want to..)
Long to belong
Be free to be free
I just want to be me
Verse 3:
I start each day complete and whole
At each day’s end
I decide how I’ll win
Be happy in my own skin
And I won’t give in
Chorus:
Don’t Wanna Long to belong
Just want to be me
Not too strong
(And I don’t want to..)
Long to belong
Be free to be free
I just want to be me
Bridge:
Should I wave hello?
Or will they think I’m strange?
Should I say something more?
Why am I afraid?
Chorus:
Long to belong
Just want to be me
Not too strong
(And I don’t want to..)
Long to belong
Be free to be free
I just want to be me
Just want to be me
