Fashion Sneak Peek for What To Wear in Spring 2010

My favorite place to look for what to wear in Spring 2010 is at Chanel.com. The fashion shows are such an experience to watch and while it may not be the ideal place for bargain shopping, it always gives me an idea of what’s coming up in the next season because they always do their fashion shows far in advance to the season they are designing for. It’s always good to know what’s coming up in the trends. Here are some major things I noticed:

Lately, in a variety of stores, I have been seeing a lot of floral print. Floral is very hard to pull off. It usually tends to appear granny-ish and frumpy but if it’s done with a feminine edge, it can work. The pics below, from the Chanel fashion show, are perfect examples.

Another thing I noticed is the color that Mr. Karl Lagerfeld, head designer of Chanel, used many pale spring colors and some winter colors. The five colors most used were raspberry red, deep blue, tan, black, and, white. Those are some colors to be on the lookout for in spring 2010.

And of course, the Chanel line must include its signature tweed suits. For those of you who are more into the clean cut look, check these out:

My go to place for finding styles to wear next season is Chanel.com. Like I said before, it’s not the place for bargain shopping but it’s for sure the place to look into the next season’s fashions. For those who are looking to buy ready to wear, try to look at Nordstroms.com or Bloomingdales.com. Both have ahead of the season styles and are of very good quality.

Have fun looking ahead into the 2010 fashions and enjoy fashionizing.

Fashion is so fun. Does it have to be expensive?

It’s fun to splurge on fabulous fashionable clothes from time to time, but on those days when you’re more careful with your cash, there are great ways and great stores that provide you with less expensive options.

One way to get a great look for less is to buy a fun, trendy top and wear it with classic pieces you already own. Check out these white shorts and white boots I already had in my closet that I topped with this new purple, black, and grey plaid jacket. It makes for a fun, transition-into-Fall-coming-out-of-summer look. For Fall - Winter 2009, plaid is showing everywhere – tops, bottoms, shorts, jackets and jeans – so you can’t go wrong, as long as you don’t look too lumberjack-ish.

Here is the same jacket but this time I pulled gray 2nd skin pants and black boots from my closet. This makes for a great Fall – Winter look.

Another way to get a great look for less is to shop at stores that have great prices or to find items on sale at more expensive shops. Sounds like common sense, but so many people ask me how they can have great clothes without ‘breaking their budget.’ Part of fashionizing is being a smart shopper. For some things, you just need to spend the money….. like shoes. Shoes….ah, shoes….. We’ll save that for future blogs. For now, I’ll just say, don’t buy cheap shoes unless you plan to wear them once.

But you can and should buy certain pieces at a lesser price. I bought the purple, black, and gray plaid jacket on a shopping trip with my great friend, Emma, at Forever 21. Cost of the jacket? $17.80…… What?

Here are some more plaid pieces you can buy around town, keeping price and budget in mind. Add them to what you’ve got and you’re hip, cool, and hopefully under budget.

                   Tilly's.....$19.99                                         Target.....$19.99                                 Nordstrom.....$44.90

For those of you who have read my previous blogs about only wearing plaid on my school uniform, you’re sharp and I stand corrected. Plaid’s not so bad, as long as it isn’t lumberjack-ish. Have fun, come under budget, and enjoy fashionizing.

So.... leggings are still in and so many companies are featuring beautiful leggings for now and for Fall/Winter '09 --- Bloomingdales, Kitson, and M. Fredric. The good news is that the tops that go with them also work well with skinny jeans, so you can opt for leggings or skinny jeans based on what you prefer. Bye to bell-bottoms for now.... Skinny jeans come in all different colors and patterns and are inspired by rock bands. To see a variety of choices, check out Hot Topic dot com. They have jeans in every color you can imagine. Bass player Jeremy Shada wears one of his fav pairs all around L.A. They're the Social Collision Yellow Double Dyed Rude Fit pair from Hot Topic shown below.

Most people cannot live without their blue jeans and wear them for every occasion. I love jeans, too, but I do not wear blue jeans every day and everywhere.  There’s a time and a place for everything, so wear your jeans but don’t wear them out from over-wear.

Three of my favorite skinny jeans are from Nordstrom’s. The white pair is the best and they are White Hot Skinny. My black pair and my blue jeans pair are by Jolt.

Leggings…… are they in or are they out? Leggings are like those trick birthday candles. The minute you think they’re out, they come right back in.

Some say in, some want them out, but leggings are in right now according to Bloomingdales “Leggings with Everything” Fall 2009 campaign. “Talk about a staple piece, with zippered ankles, lace, or lots of shine….the new leggings are our favorite things.”

I’m not sure how I feel about leggings still being ‘in’ except to say that I love wearing leggings, especially if I have a dress that’s too short to wear alone or the perfect shirt that needs to be worn with leggings. I have a lot of black, white, and tan leggings, and some cute leggings with patterns. My favorite pair has big rhinestones around the bottom and was custom-made to go with a cute dress I wore on stage recently. Skinny jeans, black, white, and blue, can all be worn in place of leggings if you just don’t want to wear leggings any more. So cool that we have choices! Love Fashion so much!

I went antiquing with my Grandma in a fabulous shop in New Jersey. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found this beautiful faux fur muff shown in this photo of me. The muff is an unusual fashion accessory, especially for Los Angeles, but I’m going to give it a try on a shopping trip on the next cold, 60-degree day. I’ll keep my cell phone and camera tucked inside! ... and I’m thinking Park City, Utah  ; ) in January for this wintery outfit.

Jacqueline Kennedy is considered to be one of the most fashionable first ladies. The night before John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th president, there was a major blizzard. With temperatures at 22 degrees F and a wind chill of 7 degrees F, the new first lady needed to stay warm and fashionable. She chose a taupe wool dress and matching coat designed by Oleg Cassini. Her coat’s collar matched her hand muff, which she wore over long kidskin gloves to keep her hands fashionably warm
