The In Colors for 2012

Do you wear too much black? Or too much black and white? Aaaaaaa!!!!

Remember, we’re going to be six feet under one day, so let’s have fun and wear colors with our black and white. This list of the IN COLORS FOR 2012 will help us choose great colors to wear.

Oh, and btw, a group of fashion and interior designers have chosen one out of the 10 In Colors for 2012 to be THE INNEST COLOR OF 2012. Stay tuned to find out the innest color of 2012.

Cockatoo is an amazing blue-green Tiffany-box-like color that I’d love to wear on top, in a dress, jeans, or as an eyeshadow or eyeliner.

Driftwood would be cool mixed with Cockatoo. Driftwood is a purplish, grayish, taupe-ish color that’s still upbeat and would be perfect in jeans, a coat, or boots. Driftwood would also be an awesome dress color.

Starfish is more taupe than gray. Starfish is perfect for boots, pants, or skirts.

Solar Power is a great big color surge, and you guessed it Sherlock, it is a bright yellow color. I love yellow and just got this ridiculously cool pair of yellow jeans that I wear with a delicious, flowy yellow, orange, and pink taupe top.

Tangerine Tango is the new orange color for 2012 and it is a sweet combination of pumpkin and cinnamon colors. I just bought a dress in this color and can’t wait to wear it.

 Cabaret – Dance in it

 Bellflower – Dance in it

 Sodalite – Stare at it

 Margarita – Sip it

 Sweet Lilac – Enhale it

So….. now…… DRUM ROLL please.  Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba

What color is THE In Color for 2012 as selected by Color Industry experts?

Fashion is not just for girls so this week’s Fashion Blog is about an outfit I wore on a premiere red carpet, and also the outfit my good and fashionable friend, Alex, wore as we were photographed together. Alex just finished working with Kristen Davis (Sex and the City) on a movie and is an uber-great friend of mine.

One thing that is tricky about red carpets is that there are usually backdrops and carpet colors that might clash with what you’re wearing. I have been so lucky in choosing just the right color for the carpets I’ve walked and have never clashed with the carpet. Check out the color I chose for Shark Night 3D, which starred Joel David Moore from Avatar, and whose sister I played in a movie I recently shot with Joel called Jewtopia.

The dress I chose is by Guess by Marciano. The ripples on the dress have a slimming effect and it is such a comfortable dress because it covers everything appropriately, so you can wear it without pulling it up or down or tugging the shoulder to cover a strap. It’s a carefree and easy-to-wear dress. Selecting shoes for this dress was tricky because I’ve never really found and loved a pair of blue shoes, especially not this blue color. I ended up wearing a pair of BCBG shoes. Which pair of shoes do you think I chose to go with this fabulous Guess by Marciano blue dress for this red carpet?

Alex wore RSQ jeans, a perfect white Dolce&Gabbana button down shirt, Nike shoes, and the super-cool Ray Ban Wayfarers glasses. I don’t know if Alex’s glasses are even prescription but they are an awesome accessory either way.

Next week, I’m going to check out which colors are the ‘in’ colors for 2012 and see how they compare to the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall colors a person should wear based on their hair and eye color.

Which NEW 2012 fashion colors should you be wearing?

Armani Exchange

Most people have heard of Giorgio Armani. When you think of Armani, you picture a perfect male model wearing a pin perfect suit, fitted to absolute perfection, with not a wrinkle or a misfit to be seen. Dark grey or dark blue. And very Italian looking.

So, it was my absolute pleasure and delight to visit Armani Exchange at the Beverly Center in West Hollywood to find the perfect red carpet outfit for the Youth Rock Awards.

I was asked to present an award at the Youth Rock Awards this in December 2011, and I had the opportunity to present with Nolan Gould of Modern Family. Other presenters included Kyle and Chris Massey, Renee Olstead, Cassie Scerbo, Nolan Gould, Blake Michael, Ryan Ochoa, Boo Boo Stewart, Jillian Rose Reed, Matthew Fahey, and Tyler Posey amoung others.

I knew I needed to find a dress with a bit of an attitude (the dress, not me) and a pair of very cool shoes to pull it together and make it fresh, young, hip, and rocking enough for the Youth Rock Awards.

It took me about, say, ah, two-and-a-half seconds to pull eight dresses and one second to spot just the shoes I knew would be cool.  Of the eight, I narrowed it down to these four exquisite dresses.

I knew I wanted a carefree and fun dress so I eliminated option one. Next, I really loved the wrap around strapless dress, but didn’t want it to be too short for many reasons.

I loved that dress the most and will go back and get it on my next Armani Exchange visit. It just wasn’t the perfect dress for the Youth Rock Awards.

I narrowed it down to these two dresses:

1.     The black dress with tiny balls all over it is the most comfortable and flattering dress, and it’s not too short or too long. I’m most comfortable in sleeveless dresses, and this dress makes the coolest sound when you move….like tiny, tiny soft jingling bells.

2.    The gray dress with ¾ length sleeves and a sewn in Cleopatra – but not quite as obnoxious as – necklace. The length on this dress it perfect and flattering and the photographer who was shooting me absolutely loved this dress. Charles has excellent taste.

The shoes were easy. I found just my size in a high, black platform ankle boot. I haven’t been allowed to wear ankle boots with a dress because it has a certain look that is not appropriate for someone my age, I’ve been told. I’ve seen it on some of my peers and it does not look fresh and young. There was something special about these Armani Exchange boots, which I gathered from looking at the Giorgia Armani website, were a barely altered version of an amazing Armani ankle boot that cost quite a bit more. I was happy to have found those magical little boots.

Another thing I noticed is the color that Mr. Karl Lagerfeld, head designer of Chanel, used many pale spring colors and some winter colors. The five colors most used were raspberry red, deep blue, tan, black, and, white. Those are some colors to be on the lookout for in spring 2010.

And of course, the Chanel line must include its signature tweed suits. For those of you who are more into the clean cut look, check these out:

My go to place for finding styles to wear next season is Chanel.com. Like I said before, it’s not the place for bargain shopping but it’s for sure the place to look into the next season’s fashions. For those who are looking to buy ready to wear, try to look at Nordstroms.com or Bloomingdales.com. Both have ahead of the season styles and are of very good quality.

Have fun looking ahead into the 2010 fashions and enjoy fashionizing.

Fashion is so fun. Does it have to be expensive?

It’s fun to splurge on fabulous fashionable clothes from time to time, but on those days when you’re more careful with your cash, there are great ways and great stores that provide you with less expensive options.

One way to get a great look for less is to buy a fun, trendy top and wear it with classic pieces you already own. Check out these white shorts and white boots I already had in my closet that I topped with this new purple, black, and grey plaid jacket. It makes for a fun, transition-into-Fall-coming-out-of-summer look. For Fall - Winter 2009, plaid is showing everywhere – tops, bottoms, shorts, jackets and jeans – so you can’t go wrong, as long as you don’t look too lumberjack-ish.

Here is the same jacket but this time I pulled gray 2nd skin pants and black boots from my closet. This makes for a great Fall – Winter look.

Another way to get a great look for less is to shop at stores that have great prices or to find items on sale at more expensive shops. Sounds like common sense, but so many people ask me how they can have great clothes without ‘breaking their budget.’ Part of fashionizing is being a smart shopper. For some things, you just need to spend the money….. like shoes. Shoes….ah, shoes….. We’ll save that for future blogs. For now, I’ll just say, don’t buy cheap shoes unless you plan to wear them once.

But you can and should buy certain pieces at a lesser price. I bought the purple, black, and gray plaid jacket on a shopping trip with my great friend, Emma, at Forever 21. Cost of the jacket? $17.80…… What?

Here are some more plaid pieces you can buy around town, keeping price and budget in mind. Add them to what you’ve got and you’re hip, cool, and hopefully under budget.

                   Tilly's.....$19.99                                         Target.....$19.99                                 Nordstrom.....$44.90

For those of you who have read my previous blogs about only wearing plaid on my school uniform, you’re sharp and I stand corrected. Plaid’s not so bad, as long as it isn’t lumberjack-ish. Have fun, come under budget, and enjoy fashionizing.

So.... leggings are still in and so many companies are featuring beautiful leggings for now and for Fall/Winter '09 --- Bloomingdales, Kitson, and M. Fredric. The good news is that the tops that go with them also work well with skinny jeans, so you can opt for leggings or skinny jeans based on what you prefer. Bye to bell-bottoms for now.... Skinny jeans come in all different colors and patterns and are inspired by rock bands. To see a variety of choices, check out Hot Topic dot com. They have jeans in every color you can imagine. Bass player Jeremy Shada wears one of his fav pairs all around L.A. They're the Social Collision Yellow Double Dyed Rude Fit pair from Hot Topic shown below.

Most people cannot live without their blue jeans and wear them for every occasion. I love jeans, too, but I do not wear blue jeans every day and everywhere.  There’s a time and a place for everything, so wear your jeans but don’t wear them out from over-wear.

Three of my favorite skinny jeans are from Nordstrom’s. The white pair is the best and they are White Hot Skinny. My black pair and my blue jeans pair are by Jolt.

Leggings…… are they in or are they out? Leggings are like those trick birthday candles. The minute you think they’re out, they come right back in.

Some say in, some want them out, but leggings are in right now according to Bloomingdales “Leggings with Everything” Fall 2009 campaign. “Talk about a staple piece, with zippered ankles, lace, or lots of shine….the new leggings are our favorite things.”

I’m not sure how I feel about leggings still being ‘in’ except to say that I love wearing leggings, especially if I have a dress that’s too short to wear alone or the perfect shirt that needs to be worn with leggings. I have a lot of black, white, and tan leggings, and some cute leggings with patterns. My favorite pair has big rhinestones around the bottom and was custom-made to go with a cute dress I wore on stage recently. Skinny jeans, black, white, and blue, can all be worn in place of leggings if you just don’t want to wear leggings any more. So cool that we have choices! Love Fashion so much!

I went antiquing with my Grandma in a fabulous shop in New Jersey. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found this beautiful faux fur muff shown in this photo of me. The muff is an unusual fashion accessory, especially for Los Angeles, but I’m going to give it a try on a shopping trip on the next cold, 60-degree day. I’ll keep my cell phone and camera tucked inside! ... and I’m thinking Park City, Utah  ; ) in January for this wintery outfit.

Jacqueline Kennedy is considered to be one of the most fashionable first ladies. The night before John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th president, there was a major blizzard. With temperatures at 22 degrees F and a wind chill of 7 degrees F, the new first lady needed to stay warm and fashionable. She chose a taupe wool dress and matching coat designed by Oleg Cassini. Her coat’s collar matched her hand muff, which she wore over long kidskin gloves to keep her hands fashionably warm

Fashion Sneak Peek for What To Wear in Spring 2010

My favorite place to look for what to wear in Spring 2010 is at Chanel.com. The fashion shows are such an experience to watch and while it may not be the ideal place for bargain shopping, it always gives me an idea of what’s coming up in the next season because they always do their fashion shows far in advance to the season they are designing for. It’s always good to know what’s coming up in the trends. Here are some major things I noticed:

Lately, in a variety of stores, I have been seeing a lot of floral print. Floral is very hard to pull off. It usually tends to appear granny-ish and frumpy but if it’s done with a feminine edge, it can work. The pics below, from the Chanel fashion show, are perfect examples.
