ICARE

ICARE IS AN ORGANIZATION CREATED BY RACHEL AND IS
SET UP FOR THE PURPOSE OF HELPING OTHER PEOPLE.

I created iCare so I could focus on helping other people. Life flies by and I wanted to make this a part of my life and not just words or something that I’d do in the future. Some of the organizations we work for with iCare are:

Kids in The Spotlight - Kids in the Spotlight, Inc. (KITS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in May 2009. The program trains youth in foster care programs and other underserved youth to create, write, cast and star in their own short films. This training culminates in an annual film festival competition where they present  awards and recognition. Kids in the Spotlight allows kids to express themselves through the art of filmmaking and encourages interest in careers in the movie industry.

I attended the November 2011 Kids in The Spotlight awards and opened the envelope and said.... "and the winner is"..... as I presented the award for the Best Supporting Actor. It was amazing to see the impact that Kids in The Spotlight has on these children. One young man shared his story and explained that KITS changed his life, that even though he was in a foster care home for a few years, KITS gave him hope and focus and he is now in college with the help and love from the people at KITS. Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) – Diabetes is difficult even for adults. When it strikes children, it is something they have to deal with the rest of their lives. I remember watching my Grandpa stick his finger and measure his blood sugar level three or four times a day, and give himself insulin. Uhhh! Needles are so tough. Because so many people suffer from diabetes, I support the JDRF and will continue to Walk for Diabetes to raise funds whenever it is possible. To find out about doing a walk to support JDRF or to donate, go to www.jdrf.org.

St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital – I have attended a number of St. Jude’s fundraising events in order to increase awareness about what St. Jude’s does for families and how people can help. We will continue to help St. Jude’s in any way possible. This is a description of what St. Jude’s is about. The description comes from the St. Jude’s website. “St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.” To learn more, visit www.stjude.org.

Saucony’s Run for Life – This is a project I am currently working on with my mom. We both love to run for exercise and enjoyment and are working on the details for developing a running/walking group to combat Juvenile and non-juvenile obesity. See www.sauconyrunforgood.com.

Other causes – Clean environment, all causes for children, and helping people on an individual basis.
